Riverfront Columbia

An interesting article today on The State about "plans" to develop the riverfront between Gervais and Blossom into a park. There really aren't any concrete plans, but everyone wants to develop it after SCE&G finishes some environmental cleanup. I've heard talk of this for years. Hopefully this time, it will happen.

A riverfront park is #10 on my Wanted in Columbia list. But maybe I should move it up. I think a park there would help further transform that part of downtown Columbia.

Linked: Columbia Closings

One of my favorite sites is Columbia Closings, a site dedicated to everything that used to be in Columbia. Ted runs the site and catalogs sites that are closing, complete with extensive pictures of the site, circumstances around it's closing and a detailed history of everything that was formerly in that space. If you've lived in Columbia for any length of time, it's a fun trip down memory lane.

Moving Wanted in Columbia

Wanted in Columbia was a random idea I had a few years ago. I built a Tumblr blog, a Twitter feed and kept a list of businesses we needed in Columbia, South Carolina. But since I started it, Columbia's gotten a bunch of new stuff — from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's to Nordstrom Rack and Urban Outfitters. And so the needs have changed. But I've always loved the idea of Wanted in Columbia, so I'm changing things up a little bit.

Sketchbook B's "Off Topic Randomness" blog will be the new home of the occasional Wanted in Columbia posts. This will make it much easier for me to post links and updates.

And I've added a Wanted in Columbia page to Sketchbook B with links to the most recent Wanted in Columbia posts. I've moved the Top 10 list there as well.

And I'm going to try and tweet more from @WantedColumbia. I'll retweet relevant stories and updates about developments in Columbia. As an aside, most of the retail reporting in this city is done by Kristy Rupon at The State. Follow her on Twitter... she does a great job.
