Will Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pave the way for Avengers: Age of Ultron?

Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theaters in May 2015 – shortly after the end of the 2014-2015 TV season. We know that Marvel isn't afraid to connect their TV and movie properties, since they imploded S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain America 2 and then dealt with the consequences on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show.

After watching the teaser trailer, I wonder if this season's Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. plot will somehow lay the groundwork for the Avengers 2. We know from the end credits of Captain America 2 that Hydra is responsible for the creation of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And the abandoned fortress that Captain America is exploring looks a lot like a vintage Hydra hideout.

While Avengers 2 obviously needs to stand on its own for people that haven't seen Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it would be cool – and very Marvel – if the entire season provides backstory for Avengers: Age of Ultron. (Just like how Avengers is better if you've seen Thor.)

If you haven't been watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it's maintained its late season one momentum and is shaping up to be a really solid show. The character development this season is refreshing and the premise is definitely more interesting when S.H.I.E.L.D. is an underdog with limited resources.
